UCL

:: University College London

Last year, we were divided into level-groups of twelve students. The groups were spread over the week. So numbers one to three worked on Monday, and so on. Maybe you have already had an exam to grade you and to put you into groups for UCL.

Be careful, with this system you probably will not see your friends if there courses are not the same day as yours. If you neither know where they live nor their English telephone number, it will be difficult for you if you want to meet them. Don't forget to take their email before leaving France so as to contact them if necessary.

The UCL campus is very large. If you don't pay attention the first day when your teacher take you from a room to another, the week after, you will get lost easily. So don't forget to get the map of UCL campus with you all the time.

Contrary to EFREI, you will probably change room between two classes while you will keep the same teacher. But rooms are not in front of each other. You will have to cross streets to go from the first one to the other.

::Telephone in London

There is a lot of English telephone companies in London. So you have to look closely every price and all the advantages of the different services. Personally, I bought a SIM card in the "Virgin Megastore" of Tottenham Court Road. For a reasonable price you have a SIM card with of course a telephone number and £5 of communication. Each SMS costs £0.03. And you can heard the "Good afternoon and welcome to Virgin Mobile" © message each time you consult your account (during the afternoon of course :o) ).

Don't forget to unlock your mobile phone before leaving France.

:: Cyber café in London

The first day at UCL, they will give you your username and your password to get access to the computers and to Internet of course. But if you want to get them before, you can. You just have to see the person responsible of IT in UCL.

If you want to access to Internet, there are a lot of cyber café in London so don't hesitate to use them if you don't have time to go to UCL. In some of them, the first hour is unbreakable so split the time with your friends if you don't want to use one hour. Or find an other one where you can take an account. After your inscription, you will pay by second so you won't loose your money.

:: Laptop in London

I think it is better for you to bring a laptop if you have one at home. But one for two (you and your room partner) or one for a flat is sufficient. It will be useful if you live far away from UCL and if you don't want to go there each time you want to work on your web site.
